In response to the ongoing unwarranted surveillance of Muslim and Arab Americans by local and federal law enforcement agencies, the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) has published its essential “Know Your Rights” booklet in Arabic.
Copies of the 14-page booklet are available free of charge to community groups and individuals, and the booklet is also available for download on the NLG website here.
The NLG was founded to provide legal support to marginalized communities, and it has maintained that role from the Red Scare through Occupy Wall Street, distributing hundreds of thousands of educational “Know Your Rights” publications since the 1980s. The NLG advises anyone visited by the FBI to assert her or his right to remain silent, to obtain the agent’s business card, and to state clearly that s/he will have an attorney contact the agent on her or his behalf.
The National Lawyers Guild was founded in 1937 and is the oldest and largest public interest/human rights bar association in the United States. Its headquarters are in New York City and it has members in every state.
