We mourn the life of Renee Nicole Good, the legal observer who was killed this week in Minnesota by ICE Agent Jonathan Ross. We condemn both CBP and ICE presence in Portland, especially as two community members were shot this week by federal CBP agents. This week’s violence is a harrowing escalation but is not a new practice. ICE has shot and killed other community members, including in Chicago, Illinois, and Northridge, California, and it had a record number of deaths inside their detention facilities in 2025.
The Trump Administration has proven that they will do everything possible in order to deter dissent. The administration wants to scare people from exercising their right to assemble and observe, so that they can continue to terrorize our community without consequences. The administration is using the language of “domestic terrorism” to justify killing someone for protecting their neighborhood. We urge everyone not to abandon our courage and collective power, and to continue to show up and demand better for our community.
NLG PDX and our members stand in solidarity with Renee’s loved ones, and the loved ones of the two shooting survivors in Portland. And we stand in solidarity with the people who have unwaveringly continued to protect their neighbors and bravely document ICE’s brutality. We echo calls to abolish ICE, and for their agents to be held responsible for their violence.
