Joint statement on the sentencing of Khalida Jarrar

Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights (LPHR), Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer) and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) are deeply appalled at the sentencing of leading Palestinian human rights defender, Ms Khalida Jarrar, to 15 months imprisonment by an Israeli military court on 7 December 2015. She was further fined 10,000 NIS and given a suspended sentence of 12 months within a 5 year period.

NLG Delegation Observes Venezuelan Legislative Elections, Affirms Transparency of Democratic Electoral Process

CARACAS, Venezuela—The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) sent four members to accompany the National Assembly Elections in Venezuela that took place on December 6, 2015. Guild members collectively visited close to 30 polling centers on the day of the election in eight municipalities, where they observed hundreds of voters participate. The delegation found that there were no instances of fraud or serious irregularities, and overall voter satisfaction with the electoral process.

NLG Calls on Obama Administration to Cease Impending Punitive Actions and Act Consistently for Normalized Relations with Cuba

Just three days before a nearly unanimous vote by the United Nations General Assembly on October. 27 to condemn the continued U.S. embargo of Cuba, the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Obama administration to cease awaiting action by Congress, and to use "its expansive authority to allow Cuba to sell" to the U.S. market, and allow U.S. suppliers to sell to Cuba.

Millions of Americans believe that President Obama has normalized relations with Cuba and ended over 50 years of U.S. efforts to strangle its economy. They might have been puzzled when the United States stood up against every other nation save one, in opposing the UN General Assembly resolution which passed, 191-2, on October 27, 2015. That resolution condemned the continuing U.S. commercial, economic and financial embargo against Cuba.

NLG Members Release Film, ZEDEs: Neocolonialism and Land Grabbing in Honduras

A delegation from the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) traveled to Honduras in August 2015 to produce a film documenting the looming threat of the first semi-autonomous zones, known as Zones for Economic Development and Employment (ZEDEs). The film is available now on YouTube.
