Over the last year, NLG-LA members have been at the forefront of protecting civil liberties across the Los Angeles area. When ICE and DHS threatened street vendors outside SoFi Stadium during Super Bowl weekend, our Immigration Committee provided on-call support, valuable Know Your Rights materials, and conducted a Know Your Rights presentation in Spanish to street vendors.<\/p>\n
We also provided support in advance of the 2022 Women\u2019s March via a Know Your Rights Training, as well as sent a team of Legal Observers to monitor the march itself. When the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, NLG-LA Legal Observers were out on the streets for hours every day to hold DHS and LAPD accountable for the numerous 1st Amendment violations and blatant violence that they perpetrated against protestors \u2013 and our LOs \u2013 in the resulting protests.<\/p>\n
Last month, we met with the City of Santa Monica and stood up for street vendors. You can read our follow up letter\u00a0here<\/a>. We are committed to holding the city accountable and creating a fair environment for street vendors.<\/p>\n Your membership is critical to the Guild’s ability to provide legal support to social movements working to dismantle racist and oppressive systems.<\/p>\n
