Working with local communities to ensure the law serves the people and planet.

We are the California Central Coast chapter of NLG, dedicated to the need for basic change in the structure of our political, economic and judicial system.

Legal observers at your event contribute to participants’ safety.

The role of NLG Legal Observers is to observe and document law enforcement activity. Legal Observers do not participate in the action or liaise with the police, and they wear bright green hats to distinguish their role. While the presence of Legal Observers does not guarantee law enforcement will respect the constitutional rights of protestors, it puts them on notice that they are being monitored.

We offer training to become a Legal Observer.

You can apply to be trained as an NLG Legal Observer to serve in Ventura, Santa Barbara and/or San Luis Obispo Counties – no legal experience needed. Trainings are held throughout the three counties.

Legal Observers® are the “eyes and ears” of the legal team. They create documentation during events which can later be use in defense cases, public statements, and litigation which aims to hold law enforcement agencies accountable for the actions of their officers. See NLG Legal Observer Program for more information.
