LONDON, RAMALLAH, NEW YORK—Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights (LPHR), the Palestinian Human Rights Organisations Council (PHROC) and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) have submitted a joint complaint to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders concerning the Israeli authorities travel ban imposed on Mr Omar Barghouti and other adverse repercussions he has faced apparently due to his prominent involvement in the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
INDIANAPOLIS—A broad coalition of Indiana and national civil rights organizations have asked Indiana Governor Mike Pence to repudiate a non-binding Indiana legislative resolution that brands boycott, divestment, and sanctions (“BDS”) tactics to achieve equality and justice for Palestinians as “anti-Jewish.”
The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) supports Loyola University Chicago (LUC) students seeking the school’s divestment from corporations profiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Set for a vote of March 24, the proposed resolution to divest is a response to the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS), which aims to compel Israel, through nonviolent direct action, to comply with international law, lift the occupation of Palestine, and recognize the human rights of the Palestinian people.
The NLG joined the Jewish Voice for Peace, Palestine Solidarity Legal Support, American Muslims for Palestine, and the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network in filing this brief asking the Washington Supreme Court to uphold lower court decisions dismissing a lawsuit against the Olympia Food Co-op board members for deciding to boycott Israeli goods as part of the global boycott, divestment and sanctions movement (BDS).
The Maryland and D.C. Chapters of the NLG, along with the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Defending Dissent Foundation (DDF) submitted this letter to the Conference Committee for the Budget of the Maryland General Assembly, expressing concern over the proposed Amendment 923228/1 of Budget Bill SB 170.
The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations-USA (CAIR-USA) sent members of the House of Representatives Education and the Workforce Committee a letter urging them to oppose legislation that would deny federal funding to colleges and universities that participate in a boycott of Israeli academic institutions or scholars. According to the legislation’s sponsors, H.R. 4009 was drafted in response to the American Studies Association’s recent resolution to boycott Israeli academic institutions.
Congressman Roskam, the Chief Deputy Whip and co-chair of the House Republican Israel Caucus, and Democratic Rep. from Illinois Dan Lipinski have recently introduced the so called "Protect Academic Freedom Act" that would deny federal funding to colleges and universities that participate in a boycott of Israeli academic institutions or scholars.
