The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) today filed an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief in the case of “the SHAC 7” – Kevin Kjonaas, Lauren Gazzola, Jacob Conroy, Joshua Harper, Andrew Stepanian, and Darius Fullmer v. United States of America, on petition for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.

National Lawyers Guild Hotline and “Know Your Rights” Materials Available for Activists Targeted by the FBI

National Lawyers Guild Issues New Report on Policing of Protests

The National Lawyers Guild has released its third comprehensive report on government violations of First Amendment rights on the one-year anniversary of the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh. “The Policing of Political Speech” documents how police over-reaction to protected speech has informed unlawful police tactics at National Special Security Events, such as the 2008 Republican National Convention and the 2009 G-20 Summit.

Peter Erlinder Released on Medical Bail; Rally Canceled

The National Lawyers Guild has been heartened to learn of the decision to grant our colleague and former president, Peter Erlinder, his “unconditional release” on medical grounds. He could be returning home as early as tomorrow to be reunited with his family. Under the circumstances, the rally originally scheduled for Friday, June 18 outside the United Nations has been canceled.

National Lawyers Guild Renews Call for Boycott of Israel in Wake of Flotilla Assault

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) renews its call for a complete boycott of Israel in light of the latest unjustified assault on peaceful humanitarian assistance to the residents of Gaza in which at least ten human rights workers were killed.
