NLG Ohio and Philadelphia Chapters Organize Legal Support ahead of RNC and DNC

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is gearing up to support our Ohio and Philadelphia chapters as they prepare for anticipated mass protests—and arrests—at the upcoming Republican and Democratic National Conventions (RNC, DNC) to be held in Cleveland, July 18-21 and Philadelphia, July 25-28, 2016.

Updates from the NLG Louisiana Chapter re: Baton Rouge Protests

Between Friday and Sunday, more than 170 non-violent protesters were arrested, and dozens documented incidents of civil and constitutional violations including excessive use of force and unlawful infringement on First Amendment rights. “Over the past few days, law enforcement in Baton Rouge have escalated every interaction with the public civilian population, creating a more dangerous environment for everyone,” says May T. Nguyen, Secretary of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

Ohio NLG: Law Enforcement Agencies Knocking On Doors to Collect RNC Intel

CLEVELAND, OHIO ― This week, the Ohio Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (Ohio NLG) and the Cleveland Branch of the NAACP received over a dozen reports of door knocks at the homes of local activists and community members by law enforcement officials with the Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation's’ Cleveland Field Office, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, and Cleveland Division of Police.

LONDON, RAMALLAH, NEW YORK—Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights (LPHR), the Palestinian Human Rights Organisations Council (PHROC) and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) have submitted a joint complaint to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders concerning the Israeli authorities travel ban imposed on Mr Omar Barghouti and other adverse repercussions he has faced apparently due to his prominent involvement in the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
