This is a project
was initiated by the Milwaukee NLG following the unprecedented
action by five members of the US Supreme Court in ordering an end to the
recounting of ballots from the November 2000 presidential election.
Justice Watch-WI
came together around the visit of Justice A. Scalia in March of 2000, and was
also instrumental in educating the public about the record of Chief Justice William Rehnquist
in the fall of 2001 and the spring of 2002 in conjunction with
protests coinciding with his scheduled award ceremonies
at Shorewood High School, which were substantially
changed as a result..
Justice Watch-WI currently
focuses on George W. Bush's nominees to serve
lifetime appointments as federal judges. We have a listserve to alert
Wisconsin people
about upcoming nominations and the importance of contacting both of our
Wisconsin
senators, because Wisconsin is the only state that has two senators on the Judiciary
committee, which must vote on every judicial nomination before the nominee can take office.
The Chair of the House Judiciary Committee is also from
Wisconsin.
We are also very concerned
about the restrictions on our civil liberties, and the
attacks on non-citizens -- and seek to educate and
organize the public on these issues.
To join the list serve send an e-mail to
justice-watch-wi-subscribe@topica.com. The web site is
