NLG Constitution, Bylaws and Resolutions
Constitution and Bylaws The governing documents of the National Lawyers Guild, occasionally updated at annual Conventions by vote of the membership. Download NLG Constitution (PDF) Download NLG ByLaws (PDF) Resolutions As a democratic organization, the work and focus of the Guild is decided by its members. Each year during our National Convention, we hold plenaries so that members may propose changes to our organizations procedures, politics and structure. Members vote on three types or proposals: Resolutions of the NLG, Amendments to the NLG Constitution and Amendments to the NLG Bylaws. Our resolutions form the guide by which the Guild takes position on the myriad of issues we face in our world today, and most of these are proposed by members and committees who are actively committed to the ideas they propose (and are often heavily debated). Amendments to the NLG Constitution make changes to the the basic structure of the organization while Amendments to the NLG Bylaws make changes to how we are allowed to carry out the mission of the Guild - both of these are voted on not only at the convention, but also by the entire membership in a National Referendum. Linked from this page are many resolutions and amendments passed since 2002 - we hope, that over time we will be able to offer a much more comprehensive archive of the resolutions and amendments of the NLG. 2007 Resolutions / Amendments 2006 Resolutions and Changes to the NLG Constitution / Bylaws 2005 Convention Resolutions (PDF) 2004 Convention Resolutions (PDF) 2003 Convention Resolutions 2002 Convention Resolutions 1989 Resolution on Resolution Process (PDF) |
