Biography

Renee Sánchez received her law degree from New College of California School of Law and a Bachelors of Art degree in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She represents and advises labor unions on a variety of issues. She has also represented nurses while working for the California Nurses Association as an organizer and labor representative, work which provided valuable litigation experience in the areas of employment and civil rights law.

Renee is the recipient of numerous public recognition awards and fellowships, including the 2008 National Lawyers Guild Bay Area Chapter’s “Unsung Hero” award. Also, as a 2003 Haywood Burns Fellow, she dedicated herself to working with a statewide coalition of civil rights legal and community-based organizations that joined to combat California Proposition 54, the so-called “Racial Privacy Initiative.” The following year she received the Foundation of the California State Bar Scholarship.

Renee has served on a variety of social justice non-profit and foundation boards of directors, including the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Lawyers Guild and the Astraea Foundation. Renee was a founding co-chair of The United People of Color Caucus and previously served on the NEC in that capacity for two years.
